Figurehead of the Board of Trade
It probably isn’t true that Faceless Ceres is solely responsible for the Icons’ role as brokers, dealers and traders of debt and fortune. But sometimes, it sure seems like it. It is perhaps surprising that a representation of the Roman goddess of agriculture atop the building where the city deals in the most physical and corporeal of commodities has decided to make incorporeal debt and fortune her thing, but the icons of Chicago have never conformed to our expectations.
True to her role and appearance, Faceless Ceres is one of the most reliable brokers in the city. Other than her iconic hunger for belief and worship, she is an impartial and trustworthy mediator of trades. She’s not exactly the leader of the icons, but she is certainly a trend-setter and a spokesperson.
